T.T. 31: President Joshua Smith? The BTC candidate America NEEDS
Why Bitcoiners should care that ONE OF US is a frontrunner Libertarian Party candidate for President of the United States
Hola amigos,
Greetings from Berlín, El Salvador!
This is a relatively long post — almost 1,200 words — but also among my most important yet.
Seriously. MAJOR news at the end of this one…
Time is the scarcest resource.
Attention and energy naturally follow… if you don’t apply all three deliberately, you’ll inevitably waste much of your one and only life on this earth.
Use those scarce resources deliberately.
That’s been one of the primary themes for “Thoreau Thursdays” since my very first post, back in the first week of 2023.
So WHY care about politics?
Most libertarians and Bitcoiners already get it.
The fiat system is beyond saving.
As long as it exists, the MANY problems that the Federal Reserve causes and exacerbates will NEVER be fixed from within D.C.
It’s not like we haven’t tried.
Ron Paul — author of “End The Fed” (2008) — has been PROVEN CORRECT about basically EVERYTHING.
Consistently. Across DECADES.
He was MOCKED for it… then screwed over by the corporate press AND the G.O.P. establishment in both his 2008 and 2012 campaigns.
Trump talked a pretty good game — he actually campaigned in 2016 on Auditing the Fed — but instead of draining the swamp, the swamp drained him. He was already signing trillion dollar spending bills even BEFORE the insane Covid tyranny and money printing.
So why bother?
It’s a fair question. One of my favorite podcast hosts — who has become both a mentor and a friend — Henry Bingaman focuses primarily on helping liberty lovers achieve PRACTICAL liberty, regardless of what politicians do.
Freelancing and entrepreneurship are outstanding vehicles for restoring more sovereignty to your own life.
Obviously, I also have 100% conviction that Bitcoin is the most important part of the solution.
But that’s the thing.
Those are only PARTS of the solution.
No single solution — no single person — can fix this in isolation.
We need a MOVEMENT.
A globally decentralized MOVEMENT.
And every movement needs leadership.
Even if it’s just a face — a representative, not a tyrant — every movement NEEDS figureheads whom people can rally around.
Enter Joshua Smith.
Antiwar veteran.
(reformed after fighting in the Iraq War “Shock and Awe” campaign)
Blue collar family man.
About 40 years old, with over a decade of Libertarian Party GRASSROOTS leadership experience.
He worked on Ron Paul’s campaigns in 2008 and 2012.
He’s run THREE national campaigns himself, and served on the Libertarian National Committee after successfully doorknocking and winning support across the country.
Ron Paul himself gave a rare official endorsement for Joshua Smith in one of those campaigns.
He’s already been on Timcast — one of the biggest independent media platforms — in August, after declaring his candidacy for POTUS earlier this summer.
(332 THOUSAND views so far on that episode, just from YouTube alone… probably over a million across all podcasting platforms)
Timcast also booked him to already come back on Thursday, November 2nd.
But most importantly?
JOSHUA SMITH is a serious BITCOINER.
(“Class of 2016” — four years ahead of me, although he’s the first to admit that he initially went through a shitcoin phase before becoming BTC only)
But don’t just take my word for it.
Don’t trust. Verify:
(clip is just 1 minute 46 seconds)
Relevant quotes from that clip in the recent North New Jersey L.P. Debate:
"Get into positions in your state and local level that totally nullify any monetary law the federal government tries to put forth."
"Please invest in Bitcoin.”
"Listen. I'm not just talking about parallel economies here... I'm talking about... an alternative currency that circumvents the federal government today."
"It's (BTC) already got the framework."
"It's not about IF the central banking system fails. It's about WHEN. And when it does, there will be blood. Everyone will hurt... unless you've already got something set up on another framework."
"That helps. And Bitcoin does that. Bitcoin fixes that."
"It's parallel to all kinds of things. The food freedom movement, etc."
"The Federal Reserve is a giant money printing machine used to steal from you through a tax called inflation. That's what it does. That's its whole point. It uses that money to continue bringing us to forever wars."
"I would nominate Ron Paul for Federal Reserve chair."
Pretty damn cool, right?
Not exactly what you’d expect from a typical politician.
But it gets even better!
That debate was on October 3rd.
Before that though, exactly one month ago — Tuesday, September 19th — Josie “The Redheaded Libertarian” (who has half a million followers on X, and follows me back now btw) had Joshua Smith on her popular “Spaces with Josie” X/Twitter show.
Full 2 hour 40 minutes link here.
The coolest part?
I actually spoke in it with Joshua directly:
(clip is 6 minutes 37 seconds)
I already shared this full clip in my “Thoreau Thursdays” post that week.
But it’s worth hearing again.
Joshua does more than just talk a good game. He’s already taken ACTION on what we discussed in that clip.
Last week, as I suggested, Shane Hazel — 2022 L.P. candidate for Georgia governor, cohost of “Bitcoin Veterans” podcast, and account director at Swan (a top Bitcoin exchange) — was the guest on Joshua’s “Break The Cycle” (BTC) podcast:
About halfway through, Shane officially endorsed him.
But wait… there’s more!
Seriously.
This is the coolest part. The big news I mentioned in the intro.
My own first “X” Space:
“President Joshua Smith? Meet the Bitcoin Plebs”
Oct. 23rd, 8pm to 11pm Eastern Time
That’s right.
After speaking in several big Spaces now, and then my first experience cohosting one — the topic of my T.T. post two weeks ago — I decided to step up.
I realized that, as host, I could help bring people together… help build bridges between Bitcoiners and libertarians.
But I’m not doing it alone!
Shane Hazel agreed to cohost.
So did Clint Russell — the host of “Liberty Lockdown” who also gave me an unexpected shoutout by name to a million people on Timcast the night I moved here to El Salvador:
My “Twitter fren” Michelle Weekley also agreed to cohost.
Particularly for the second and third hours of this “Meet the Bitcoin Plebs” Space, when we open it up to Q&A for anyone who attends.
I hope to meet some of you there!
Here’s the link again to set a reminder for X to notify you when it starts.

Peace, amigos.
Adios until next week!
“The global peaceful monetary revolution will not be centralized.”
Bonus picture:
The day I kinda sorta almost met Ron Paul — through the transitive property is close enough, okay — vicariously via Clint Russell:
“END THE FED! END THE FED! END THE FED!"
Love it! Will be listening....
this B*LLshit “governs the least” is a rotten old capitalist slogan from the 80s. Praised by jackass white folks like Ronald Reagan.
